Winter DIY Projects to Warm Up Your Home

While winter means a drop in temperatures, spending more time indoors, and making sure you are always bundled up to go outside, it doesn't have to mean being bored with the same old day-to-day. Winter is the perfect time to create your own inviting spaces in your home where you can relax and be creative. Try any of the following DIY projects to make your home more tranquil so there is no need to go out into the cold:

Create a Peaceful Reading Nook

A reading nook is the perfect setting for individual reading and exploration. Create a cozy corner in your home with soft chairs, good lighting, a fuzzy blanket, and inspirational decorations. Make a space in your home for adults and kids alike to put down the technology and open a book. Winter's colder temperatures and shorter days make it a great season to motivate yourself to cozy up with a good book.

Start an Indoor Herb Garden

Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean your culinary adventures should end. Starting an indoor herb garden is as easy as finding an indoor windowsill facing south/southeast or purchasing an indoor plant light. Having fresh herbs at your fingertips will make your meals more flavorful and improve the air quality throughout your home. Some easy herbs to start with are basil, cilantro, oregano, parsley, and sage.

Personalized Wall Art & Decor

When stuck indoors, it's the perfect time to learn a new skill. Buy some paints and a blank canvas and let your imagination do the work. Need some new decorations why not paint it yourself? Don't need wall art, try creating your own decor such as candle making, or floral arrangements. These projects are easy fun crafts that in the end give you something to show off in your home.

Furniture Facelift

This is also a great season to give your older furniture a facelift. Whether wanting to refinish, repaint, or repurpose your furniture it may be a good time to breathe new life into your living space. Start by assessing and planning your furniture goals. Figure out if you will be staining, painting, adding new hardware, adding new upholstery, or going rustic and distressing the items. Once your plan is set, do your research, grab your supplies, and get to work.
